Description: <p>San Diego Audubon and the California Native Plant Society are teaming up to install a native plant demonstration garden, and we need your help! Using plants native to San Diego County is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to improve wildlife habitat, beautify your yard, and reduce your watering bill. While many people use drought-tolerant or pollinator-friendly plants in their landscaping, many of these species are non-native to our area, which does little to create habitat for birds and other wildlife. We invite members of the public to participate in this planting event, find out more about which plants are native to our area, and obtain resources about how to install native plants in your garden. We will even be providing some native plant seeds, free of charge, and volunteers will have the opportunity to purchase additional native plants as well. The event will take place at the Organic Garden at Mesa College, accessible off of Marlesta Drive. We will provide all needed supplies as well as water, snacks, gloves and sunscreen, but come prepared in closed-toed shoes and field clothes (i.e. something that you don’t mind getting dirty) and bring a reusable water bottle and a hat.
