Description:
From July to November 2020, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will host virtual Charlas, “talks” in Spanish, related to themes of Chicanx, Latinx, and Border Art in conjunction with the online exhibition “To Tame a Wild Tongue: Art after Chicanismo.” The Charlas feature exhibition curator Alana Hernandez in conversation with exhibiting artists on Instagram Live. Join the Charla on Thursday, July 16 at 11am with Cog•nate Collective (the artist duo Amy Sánchez Arteaga and Misael Díaz) who work across the United States-Mexico border region, developing public interventions and installations that highlight the contested social, physical, and political boundary between the two nations. The online exhibition “To Tame a Wild Tongue: Art after Chicanismo” brings together over twenty-five artists from the Museum’s collection to explore distinct aspects of the Mexican American experience. Featuring works from the 1980s to the present, the exhibition explores the reverberations of the post-Chicano moment, with special attention paid to our transnational border region.
