Description: <p>The Athenaeum’s popular outdoor film series, “Flicks on the Bricks,” returns in August for its 14th year. Guests are invited to join us on the outdoor patio for balmy summer nights and screenings of classic cinema al fresco. The film series will again be curated and presented by KPBS film critic Beth Accomando and writer D. A. Kolodenko, This summer our focus on vintage crime and mystery continues with “La Jollans of Noir: Vintage Crime Thrillers Starring Actors with a La Jolla Connection.” The three films we’re featuring are: “Underworld USA” (1961) on August 15, starring Cliff Robertson, La Jolla born and raised; “Mirage” (1965) on August 22, starring Gregory Peck, also La Jolla born and raised; and “Sudden Fear” (1952) on August 29, starring Joan Crawford, who had a vacation residence in La Jolla.
