Description:
Attorney and amateur historian Gordon Gidlund will describe how Shakespeare was part of the cultural literacy of the country during the Civil War, both North and South, as shown by theatre attendance, allusions in political speeches and in soldiers’ letters, and Lincoln’s appreciation for the Bard, with the terrible irony being, of course, that he was killed by a noted Shakespearean actor.
