Description:
The Swimmer (1968. 94 minutes) – Burt Lancaster headlines this hypnotic, haunting and surreal adaptation of John Cheever’s short story. The film follows the metaphoric odyssey of a disillusioned ad executive (Lancaster) as he confronts his destiny by swimming home pool by pool, pining for a golden past that may not exist. Co-stars Kim Hunter, Janice Rule and Joan Rivers. Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents Film Forum Coronado, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month in the Library’s Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. Registration is suggested but not required.
